Newfold's 'Science Selfie Competition' has now ended! We have been overwhelmed by the pupils enthusiasm for Science activities outside of school!

Thank you to all the teachers and pupils who took part.
All your efforts are appreciated.

And the winners are.....

Early Years - Harry YRF

Lower Key Stage Two - Noah Y3D

Upper Key Stage Two - Grace Y5McG

Well done everyone and enjoy your Science prizes!

Take a look at all the entries and feel free to add a comment......

Toby Y1J crystal making.

'I put the rocks in the bowl, then I tipped vinegar in, then I waited for some days for some of the crystals to form, then I put some blue food colouring in with the vinegar and the crystals turned into what they need to be like.'

Neve Y5Mc and Sadie Y3G gravity testing.

Neve and Sadie have defined gravity and created up thrust on a Minnie Mouse Teddy!

Kate and Alicia Y6P mentos and coke.

Ella Y1J pumpkin picking.

Ella visited Poplar Farm in Ormskirk to create her Science selfie.  Her first job was to find the biggest pumpkin!

Ben Y4H making snot!

Lucie Y1W made a bath bomb.

Beth and Lucie made their bathbomb's as part of a Girl's Brigade activity!

Charley with his spider skins.

Charley has been learning about how Tarantulas shed their skin so they can grow.  He has three in his collection at home now!

Alfie Y4M Science treasure collection.

Arthur Y5McG making chocolate cookies!

Maddy Y4H making gloop.

Ellie Y6H.

Ellie used her trampoline to test out the theory of Gravity and used Pic Collage to display her findings!

Edward Y1J The skeleton of a Cat.

Edward has been learning about the skeleton as part of his Science work within School.  He visited a veterinary practice to look at all the different bones in a Cat.

William Y4H Looking at a dog flea through a microscope!

William has been looking at things down a microscope in a veterinary practice.  It looked really small on the microscope slide, but he could see it enlarged under the microscope lens. He was able to detect what was making the dog so itchy!

Zach Y3G making magic milk.

Grace Y6P making chocolate chip cakes!

Archie Y1J within the solar system!

Connor Y3G within the solar system!

Tom Y2W Mad fizzing potion!

I put a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda into one of Mummy's wine glasses, along with a squirt of washing up liquid, some red colouring and some lemon juice.  The more I stirred the juice, the more bubbles started to appear. It was crazy!

Noah Y3D Air rocket experiment

I experimented with a water and air rocket to see what combination of water and air would get the rocket the highest - all while trying not to hit the house!

Joshua Y4H Glowing gunge!

Joe Y3D

George and his burst bladder experiment!

Kalonice Y4H

I set up the microscope and got whatever I wanted to see. I chose parts of a grasshopper that was already done for you. I turned on the light, closed one eye and looked through the hole with the other eye.  The microscope enlarges small objects so you can see them clearly.

Newfold's Science Ambassador Amenda Y4H experimenting with salt water and fresh water

Billy-Joe Y3D

Billy-Joe defeated gravity by taking on the very scary bungee drop at Aerial Extreme!

Paige Y4H making gloop with black food colouring!

Ruby Y4H making an electromagnet!

Newfold's Science Ambassadors Esme and Reeve making a volcano with clay, baking soda, vinegar and food colouring!

Daniel Y4H

Luke with his telescope!

Grace Y5McG Science fun at her Aunty's lab

I heated magnesium ribbon to produce a bright, white spark.  Then, I heated iodine to make a pretty, purple vapour.  I touched a Van Der Graaf generator which made my hair static and last but not least, I studied 'Sydney' the skeleton and discovered he has 206 bones!

Matthew and the kitchen roll and water experiment!

Lucy Y3G making her amazing 'checker board' cake and her Autumn walk!

Keira Y5Mc learning about reptiles and their natural habitats!

Gracie Y4M

Gracie went to Wigan S.T.E.A.M fest during the holidays and tried 'Arduino' which brings drawings to life.  Gracie drew a dog, then attached a tail and made it wag.  she then had to wire up the drawing sensor ont he circuit board and change the coding on the computer program to make the tail wag.

Louis Y1J and the full moon!

Newfold's Science Ambassador Thomas Swift Y4M at the
World Museum in Liverpool!

Osian Y1W

Osian discovered that magnets can be used through cardboard.  He used a magnet under the cardboard box to move a magnetic ball around a road track.

Ruby Y4H making glow in the dark ecto-plasm

Joshua Y1J

Joshua did an experiment which involved putting apples in different liquids or substances to see if they went brown when left.  He found that the apple in milk did not go really brown.

Hannah Y2Y making a volcano erupt!

Freddie Y4H making a cube bubble!

Adam Y1J making green slime!

Harvey Y6 and Oliver Y4

Imogen Y2W dressed as a Pirate with a Morse Code machine at
Souter Lighthouse in Sunderland!

Joe YRD having fun learning about marine life at Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary!

Niamh Y2Y 'floating and sinking' experimenting in the water!

Jacob Y4M making a special 'fizzing' potion!

Joe and Eloise at the Manchester Museum's Science Spectacular!

Joe and Eloise are watching a trick relating to the mass and density of different liquids using a bottle of water with a sachet of floating ketchup inside.
The trick is to exert pressure on the bottle which makes the ketchup sink as the air inside is compressed, making it heavier than water!

Scarlet Y3 Static hair!

Alfie understanding plant cells!

Max and his microscope experiment!

Bella Y4H making a bath bomb!

Georgina Y3G dressed as a high doll on halloween!

She made her own glow jar for trick or treating using the liquid from glow sticks!

Connie Y2 learning about space at Spaceport!

Millie Y4H learning about planets at Spaceport!

Harry YRF picking fruit from plants and baking with the apples!

Harry found some plants that produced fruit and then learned how to make an apple crumble. He enjoyed crumbling the mixture, his hands were very messy!

Jamie-Lee Y1J

I made a model of how my lungs, diaphragm and wind pipe work. The straw is my wind pipe, the red balloon is my lungs and the yellow balloon shows my diaphragm.  If I pull on the yellow balloon as shown in the photo, it inflates my lungs! This is how we are able to breathe every day. How cool is that!

Emily Y4M

This is Emily's stick journey.  I went to Billinge hill and collected natural things. We looked at the roots, leaves and stems of the different plants and trees.  I picked lots of different shapes and textures too.

Darcey Y3G looking at a Linear Particle Accelerator (Linac)

From a physics point of view, this accelerates particles to the speed of light then smashes them into a tungsten target to create photons.
From a medical point of view, this is used to produce radiation to kill cancer cells.
Darcey had a tour of the multi-million pound machine and room.  She used the remote control to rotate the machine and had a brief explanation of what it did.

Millie experimented to create 'invisible ink' that can only be seen when holding paper to light.  Millie used the ink to write down the secret ingredient that she has revealed by holding the paper on top of the lamp!
Can you see it?

Francesca Y5McG learning about magnets at the kids club on holiday in Tenerife!

Emma Y5 McG and Charlie Y2W doing kitchen science experiments!

We watched the pepper 'disperse' in the water when we touched it with washing up liquid.  Then we watched water actually growing in a glass! We had lots of fun and got a little bit messy!
